ALPENTAL A_FRAME
Nestled in the Cascade Mountains, the Alpental A-Frame at Snoqualmie Pass draws inspiration from the sharp mountaintops of Bryant Peak and its nearby namesake Alpental ski resort. With its soaring cathedral ceiling and expansive high-performance glass, the Alpental A-Frame is designed to be a sustainable, high performance, northwest modern ski/snowboard cabin.
-
Carefully positioned into the hillside, the A-frame is designed to be built entirely of locally harvested douglas fir wood and clad with robust metal panel. The cabin connects with the mountain at each of its three levels. The ground floor houses vehicles, gear storage and workshop and opens to the forest floor. The middle level is nestled within the trees and contains the kitchen, living and dining areas. The top level houses the sleeping quarters and rises above the tree tops providing dramatic forest views throughout all seasons.
Materials and details were selected to be humble, minimal, low maintenance and sustainable. The warm wood interiors of douglas fir panels surrounded by the rhythm of fir beams create cozy and relaxing moments in which to enjoy the snow-covered landscape. A multi-purpose insulated concrete wall anchors the plan and provides seating, wood storage, and a fireplace for all seasons. The kitchen and dining spaces on the main level open to a rear courtyard for an indoor-outdoor experience during the summer months and for adjacent ski-in/ski-out opportunities in winter.
